"RMudkips" (rmudkips)

You know those three seemingly adorkable MTV video blondes who happened to make good music back in the 70's and 80's? They completely grow up here. Well, almost.
Synchronicity was the band's fifth and final album, the swan song that signaled the quick end of what was one of the biggest bands ever. The album was created amidst tension and anger between the three, notably between Sting and Stewart Copeland. In fact, it was so bad they had to record most of the album in three separate rooms. It was a bad thing, but it somehow had a positive effect on Andy Summer's guitar playing.
The music on the album is gloomy. From the dying dinos on "Walking in Your Footsteps", to the suburban Loch Ness in "Synchronicity II", the album paints a pretty dark mood, a mood almost stripped away from the tight reggae-punk of their first three releases.
The album's well known for its five hit singles, but the rest of the album holds up pretty well too; the tracks "Walking In Your Footsteps", "Tea In The Sahara", and "Miss Gradenko" being pretty awesome overall. There are only two weak points (in my opinion), and even then, one of them, "Mother", is so absurd you can't think of why it's there in the first place.
Overall, it's an excellent album, one of the best collections of 80's music you can buy, and a brilliant finale to the weird sounds of the Police.

Plus there's about 32+ variants of the cover. Gotta get them all!

A classic, and the first album I ever bought on CD, back in, like, 1992 or something.

I never liked the Police that much, but I liked this album a lot. I got it for Christmas the year it came out (on vinyl, 'cause I'm old).

Thanks for the reminder. It's a shame the word "epic" is so useless today, because back then it meant something and applied to this album.
It's been too long since I listened to it as an album, so that's what I'm doing now. I encourage everyone to do the same.

Heh, no problem. Hyperbole in general I find overused, but hey, how do you get the attention of people?
I've admittedly only listened to it once, but I'll have another listen soon.

That's pretty awesome to hear. I'm into the Police, albeit more into their punk reggae than this style, but the album is still great.

I've always remembered how important the first record you buy is. Glad it was this.
Mine was "St. Elsewhere" by Gnarls Barkley, or Sgt. Pepper's.

The Police were my favorite band around the time. I think from the time I was in 3rd grade, when I bought Zenyatta Mondatta to when I got Ghost in the Machine (I think in 5th grade, at the height of my love for the Police) to Synchronicity, I listened to those albums collectively hundreds and hundreds of times (also their first two albums).

I've always thought they were a singles band, but this album proves otherwise. I've loved the Police ever since I remember hearing "Every Breath You Take" on the radio. They're one of my favorite bands ever.
